‘Sad and disappointed’ Alexander Zverev hits 14 double faults in shock Munich loss to Ilya Ivashka

Alexander Zverev hit 14 double faults as he lost to Ilya Ivashka after having served for the match in the Munich quarter-finals.

The world No. 6 was defeated 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 6-3 by the Belarusian qualifier at the ATP 250 tournament. The German served for the match at 5-4 in the second set, before losing serve twice in a row, and twice again in the decider.

Zverev hit six of his 14 double faults in the second set and seven in the third.

“This is a match I should never have lost – I’m sad and disappointed,” Zverev said in a post-match interview.

World No. 107 Ivashka said in his post-match interview: “This match was really tough for me and I was [close to losing] in the second set.

“I managed well and I tried stay in and fight until the last moment to see if he would give [me] chances and it happened.

“I just came to play match after match. I knew that I had played well [in the] previous weeks, but I was not expecting [this run].”
