Martin Odegaard reportedly keen on a return to Arsenal

Martin Odegaard

Martin Odegaard’s Arsenal stint

Martin Odegaard spent the second half of last season on loan at Arsenal, and made a great impression on Mikel Arteta and Arsenal fans alike. The 23-year-old made 14 Premier League appearances for the Gunners, scoring once and providing two assists.

Speaking about a potential permanent deal for the Norwegian at the end of last season, Mikel Arteta said:

“Well we have a very clear and strong opinion on what we would like to do. He’s not our player.

We’ll have discussions in the next few weeks, but first of all we need to respect that he’s a Real Madrid player. We’ll have those communications. We’ve tried to make everything that we could to get Martin performing for the team, which I think he’s done, and he has adapted really well to our way of playing and to our football club.

Hopefully we have given him the hope and the feeling that this could be a good place for him.”

Return to Madrid in jeopardy?

It was thought that Martin Odegaard would be staying in Madrid this season, with reports in Spain suggesting that he would be a part of their plans for the new season.

However, according to a fresh report from MadristaReal on twitter, generally reliable for all things Madrid, this may no longer be the case.

The account relates that:

“Odegaard’s dream is to be successful at Real Madrid, but he is thinking of returning to Arsenal. Neither the player or the club are against the decision.”

Meanwhile, El Lguero reported that his future remains unclear.

With Real Madrid seemingly desperate for income sources, could Odegaard be on his way back to north London after all?
