Honours even in Varsity hockey as Oxford shirts mocked

Cambridge mocked Oxford men’s sleeveless shirts as a “particularly poor look” for the Varsity match showcase at Southgate HC on Sunday.

In the men’s match, Cambridge beat Oxford 5-3 in a shoot-out after Oxford’s Arthur Hughes had equalised following Jamie Rintoul’s opener for the light blues in normal time.

During the men’s match, Cam Blue Bird posted an amusing ‘sleeve update’ clip.

After panning to the light blues, a Cambridge supporter noted the “distinct lack of sleeves” of the Oxford team.

“It might look good on a beach in Ibiza, but on a rainy day in Southgate it’s a particularly poor look for the hockey Varsity match,” he said.

Oxford women won their fifth Varsity match in six years at the 121st running of the annual showcase.

They defeated Cambridge 1-0 thanks to a Lucy Donovan goal.
