A beating sun, tournament hockey and a spacious crowd of mostly Oranje will be the makeup of this year’s EuroHockey Championships in Amsterdam over the next 10 days.
It is the best outcome for organisers after the tournament was originally put in jeopardy and the distinct possibilty that, for European teams at least, there would be no major tournament play before this summer’s Tokyo Olympics.
Angus Kirkland, European Hockey Federation director general, said: “Considering it might not have happened at all, it’s great to have it on.”
