2021 Junior Grand Prix Series – International Figure Skating

Grand Prix

The 2021 Junior Grand Prix Series is scheduled to get underway in Courchevel, France — the town that hosted the first ISU live stream seven years ago. This competition takes place Aug. 18 – 21.

A new crop of talent is set to take the seven stages of the Series this year. With all junior competitions cancelled in the 2020-2021 season, many young skaters, including all the 2020 World Junior champions, have moved into the senior ranks for the Olympic season.

Entries per nation for the 2021 Junior Grand Prix are based on the results of the 2020 World Junior Championships. Any allotments not used by a nation will be assigned to the those countries that currently have one skater qualified at each of the seven events. Entry numbers per country for all seven events had to be submitted to the ISU by June 1. Full details of how placements are earned can be found HERE.

Allotments per nation:

Men:

Italy, Japan, Russia — 2 entries at 7 events
Estonia, France and the U.S. — 1 entry at 7 events

Ladies:

Russia, South Korea and the U.S. — 2 entries at 7 events
Azerbaijan, Canada, Poland — 1 entry at 7 events

Pairs (four events):

France, Germany, Russia and the U.S. earned 3 places at 4 events
Canada, China, Georgia, Italy, Sweden and Ukraine earned 2 places at 4 events:
The remainder of the field: 1 place at 3 events

Ice Dance:

Georgia, Russia and the U.S. — 2 entries at 7 events
Canada, France, Japan — 1 entry at 7 events

Edmonton, Canada is scheduled to host the second event Aug. 25 – 28. The timing of this competition is dependent upon the international quarantine restrictions in place at the time. All indications are that it will take place at some point this season, but it may be switched to a later date on the roster. Currently, all persons entering Canada must quarantine for 14 days, three of which must be at a government-approved hotel, but as a majority of the population is likely to be vaccinated by the summer, it could potentially be a very different scenario by the time August rolls around. We will continue to update this post as more information becomes available.
